Micklegate has been an important thoroughfare in York for well over a thousand years. As a gateway to the historic city, the street has encountered many visitors including Royals, Romans and Vikings. Now new signage designed by York marketing agency The Partners Group will encourage today’s visitors to take time to explore the shops, bars, restaurants and historic buildings of Micklegate, rather than just pass through. The first sign has been installed at the Nunnery Lane car park and, according to City of York Council street environment officer, John Wood, this is the first of many such signs planned for key locations around the city: “We’re delighted with the new signage at Micklegate and we’re now looking at publicising other peripheral streets to make sure visitors to the city get to see as much as possible of what York has to offer,” he says. “Gillygate is next on the list.” The Partners Group’s senior designer, Darren Willis, said: “This year marks our 20th anniversary and we have been working with the council for most of this time. Our offices are located at The Mount, which is close to Micklegate, so we were really pleased to be able to contribute to the rejuvenation of this part of the city. Micklegate has lots to offer visitors and local people and the new signage helps to highlight the many places of interest.” The Partners Group was established in York in June 1988. Now, twenty years on, it is York’s largest marketing communications agency, with a 17-strong team providing PR and marketing support to a client base of local, regional, national and international organisations across a range of markets. |
