historic achievement for york pr firm

The Partners Group’s latest big PR account win is taking it back in time - the firm has won a contract to manage publicity for the York Archaeological Trust.

Partners, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, first started working with the Trust in 2007, providing local and regional media relations support to publicise its excavation work at Hungate - York’s largest city centre excavation for more than 25 years.

The PR company has now won a competitive pitch, beating off five other agencies to manage communications for the Trust as a whole, including its three flagship attractions the JORVIK Viking Centre, archaeological adventure DIG and the Barley Hall medieval townhouse.

Partners director Karen Nixon heads the account.  She says, “York Archaeological Trust has a very broad communications remit.  As well as running three high profile visitor attractions, it offers a wide range of developer-led commercial archaeology and conservation services, which are aimed at a very different audience.

“Our experience of publicising visitor attractions through our specialist leisure division - Partners Leisure - coupled with our extensive business-to-business media relations expertise, means we can support the Trust across all areas of its work.”

The campaign has already seen the Partners team take to the streets with Vikings to reclaim their heritage, take people back to see the Victorian houses in which they were born as they were uncovered at the Hungate excavation, not to mention seeing Trust conservationists incarcerated in the Tower of London conserving cannons from an ancient shipwreck.

Says John Walker, York Archaeological Trust chief executive, “As a major tourism operator but also as a provider of specialist archaeology services and a charity, we have contrasting and demanding requirements.  Partners listened and understood, and their proactive approach means we can act quickly, making the most of opportunities to reach the people we need to reach.”

Partners specialises in creative communications work across a range of sectors, working with a client base that spans the whole of the UK.  The firm can also provide international publicity support through its membership of the IPRTeam international PR network.
