vital support for stroke survivors in york |
||
A donation from a York firm is helping to support stroke survivors and their families in the city. The donation to the Stroke Associations welfare grants scheme comes from York PR and design agency The Partners Group, which is continuing its twenty-year-long tradition of supporting a charity instead of buying Christmas gifts for clients. The firm chose to support the Stroke Association this year because members of its team and their families have been affected by stroke. Stroke Association regional fundraising manager, Peter Collins, called in to meet the Partners team and collect their £600 donation this week. He says: Every year around 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. It is the third most common cause of death in the UK and the leading cause of severe disability. We are immensely grateful for this donation from The Partners Group towards our welfare grants scheme. Welfare grants can be a lifeline for stroke survivors. Whether its help with heating bills for someone who can no longer work, or even just the cost of travel to and from hospital, the grants are a source of great relief for those left dealing with the financial implications of stroke. Last year the Stroke Association awarded £169,000 in welfare grants. As well as essential household items, the grants provide specialist equipment that can transform peoples lives. Examples include a Lightwriter, which enables people with communication difficulties to communicate, and an orthopaedic mattress to provide the support needed for a sound sleep. The Partners Group is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and its Christmas charity donation has been a permanent fixture in the firms calendar since its inception in 1988. Over the last two decades, Partners has supported many local charities including York Against Cancer, York Nightstop, the MS Society York and District branch, York Womens Aid refuge, Woodlands Resource and Respite Care Centre, Lidgett Grove School and food parcels for the homeless in the city.
