A tweet might only be 140 characters, but it takes time and effort to generate useful, interesting and entertaining content that will engage your followers.
10 content ideas for Twitter
As with all marketing, you should have a strategy that is driving your presence on social media. If Twitter forms part of your marketing activity then no doubt you will have already outlined why it’s important, what you’re trying to achieve, who you are reaching and how it integrates with other aspects of your communications strategy.
One of the things many of our clients find difficult (and subsequently ask us to generate) is content. A tweet might only be 140 characters, but it takes time and effort to generate useful, interesting and entertaining content that will engage your followers.
Here are 10 ideas for creating relevant content for your Twitter campaign:
Promotions
- Build follower loyalty with an exclusive sale or discount that can be redeemed online or in-store using a special code.
Behind-the-scenes
- Tweet a photo or video that showcases your business operations or work environment. For example, if you’re an architect creating a plan for a new building, provide a glimpse into the creative process.
Helpful tips
- Create a regular series of tweets that are informative or surprising. If you’re a hotel, tweet recipes or housekeeping tips.
Customer spotlight
- Respond to questions or highlight a positive review to show your customers how much you appreciate them. Be sure to mention the @username of the customer in your tweet.
Feature industry experts or news
- For #FF (Follow Friday), encourage followers to learn more from industry influencers. Or retweet content from those influencers that is relevant to your business.
Community or industry spotlights
- It takes a community to build a business. Give a mention to local events, charities and fundraising activities that you support. And get involved in local or industry ‘Twitter hours’ (such as #YorkshireHour, if that’s where the people you are keen to engage with spend time) to help build your profile.
Focus on your people
- Highlight the people who help run your company by tweeting photos of them hard at work - and also having fun.
Upcoming marketing initiatives
– Let your followers be the first to know about the availability of a new brochure, the launch of a new product or the fact that you’ve been shortlisted for a top award.
Surveys
– Conduct your own surveys and market research or add your view to someone else’s survey results.
Q&As
– Host a Q&A session where your experts can offer advice and be the “voice of authority” on relevant subjects.
