BugBrush wins Innovation Showcase

Congratulations to our client Rowena Johnson, whose BugBrush invention was awarded the top prize for innovation at this year’s Venturefest Yorkshire.

Rowena spent the day talking to investors and potential new customers at the one day event, which took place at York Racecourse on 12 March and attracted over 1,000 delegates. The Innovation Showcase is organised by Science City York and supported by The University of York, with the most innovative product receiving a prize package worth around £13k.

A former physiotherapist, copywriter and market trader, Rowena invested eight years and more than £150,000 in bringing BugBrush to market and remains committed to solving the problem of infant tooth decay. She was up against 12 other businesses from the region, including York-based Inkblot Films and Panoplia, who manage software security.

Rowena was also invited to give a seminar talk to delegates, where she shared her experiences of being an entrepreneur and taking her product to market. She was then awarded her prize package at the evening dinner by Mark Mortimer, director of Research and Enterprise at the University of York, and Chris Danks from Science City York. The package includes lead generation support from TSM, accountancy and email support and office space at York Science Park.
