The brief

The annual JORVIK Viking Festival attracts more than 40,000 visitors to York each year over February half-term and has become a firm fixture in York's tourism calendar.

Our brief, as part of a wider remit to promote the work of York Archaeological Trust and its four visitor attractions - the world famous JORVIK Viking Centre, medieval town house Barley Hall, archaeologal adventure DIG! and Micklegate Bar Museum - over a number of years, was to drive UK and international visitors to the Viking Festival.

The campaign

Our campaigns combined targeted press visits and briefings with broad-ranging media relations targeting local, regional, national and international print, broadcast and online media. As well as pre-event publicity opportunities, our PR activities engaged the media throughout the festival.

The results

The annual campaign generated print, online and broadcast media coverage representing, on average, an 800% return on investment, delivering exposure for the festival to a global audience of over 12 million people. The campaign has also been credited for sell out events.
