The brief

The annual JORVIK Viking Festival attracts more than 40,000 visitors to York each year over February half-term.

Now in its 28th year, the festival has become a regular fixture in York's tourism calendar.

Our brief - as part of a wider remit to promote the work of York Archaeological Trust and its four visitor attractions - the world famous JORVIK Viking Centre, medieval town house Barley Hall, archaeologal adventure DIG! and Micklegate Bar Museum - is to drive UK and international visitors to the JORVIK Viking Festival each year.

The campaign

Our campaigns combine targeted press visits and briefings with broad-ranging media relations activity targeting a variety of niche and general interest news and lifestyle print, broadcast and online media at local, regional, national and international levels.

As well as identifying pre-event publicity angles and opportunities, our PR activities aim to engage local and regional media throughout the festival.

The results

The annual campaign generates print, online and broadcast media coverage that represents, on average, an 800% return on investment and delivers exposure for the event to a global audience of over 12 million people. The campaign has also been credited for sell out events.
