Three weeks to the Three Peaks

With just three weeks to go until York PR firm The Partners Group tackles the Yorkshire Three Peaks Charity Challenge, the team is calling on the local business community to help raise money for young carers in the city.

The Young Carers Revolution gives carers as young as eight a voice and access to support from their peers to help overcome the challenges they face.

Partners Group director Monica Green says, "Having met and heard the stories of some of the young carers in the city, we want to raise as much money as we can for the Young Carers Revolution in our 25th anniversary year, as well as helping to raise awareness of the difficulties young carers face. Recent figures from the Census reveal a 14% increase in the number of young carers in Yorkshire and the Humber, illustrating just how much young carers do for society.

"We think the Yorkshire Three Peaks will be a challenge, but that's nothing compared to the challenges these inspirational young people are dealing with, daily. Caring can have a real impact on young people’s lives, affecting their physical and emotional wellbeing and preventing them from fulfilling their potential. Over a quarter of young carers miss school or experience educational difficulties, making them more than twice as likely to be out of education, employment or training.

"We're aiming to raise as much money as we can to help give young carers a voice through Young Carers Revolution, which is based at the York Carers Centre."

The Partners team is also fundraising for Speakability, a little known national charity supporting people with communication difficulties following brain damage as a result of stroke, head injury, brain tumour or other neurological illness, as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

The team will tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Sunday 9 June: a 25-mile walk and 1600-metre ascent of three of the region’s highest mountains – Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park – within 12 hours.
