“A model for the sustainable regeneration of older buildings”

The brief

The £32 million conversion of a Grade II* listed railway station into a BREEAM excellent rated new headquarters and customer centre for City of York Council was a project with significant design, construction and communications challenges.

Developers S Harrison and Buccleuch Property tasked The Partners Group with role of communicating the social, financial, operational, heritage and “green” benefits of the scheme.

The campaign

From community relations through exhibitions, information events, website and local media commentary, Partners generated support and excitement about the scheme.

We worked with our client’s client, main contractor and special interest groups such as English Heritage and the Civic Trust to explain how heritage, sustainability and modern office design could combine effectively.  Specialist building, design and local government media were engaged in the process.

The results

Public support for the project; positive media coverage locally; extensive positive feature coverage in key target media – Building Products, Local Government News, LABM for example - focused on the sustainable legacy of the scheme; positive relations with all parties and English Heritage’s endorsement of “a model for the sustainable redevelopment of older buildings”.
